The articles in this module are designed to walk you through the ins and outs of all things linear programming—from scheduling to ad breaks, to filling out content. No matter how much content you plan to program or have available already, our team is here to support you at every stage, from upload to delivery. And for those teams just getting started in building out one of these channels, consider this your map!
The Quick and Dirty: What Is A Linear Channel?
Linear channels are the closest thing available in the digital content landscape to a "traditional" television experience; within this framework, your viewers ingest content in a familiar, scheduled format laid out hour by hour in an Electronic Programming Guide (the EPG)—e.g. Rugrats from 12:30-1PM; Murder She Wrote 1PM-1:30 and 1:30-2PM, etc. As with streaming VOD content, content for your scheduled programming can be uploaded to the CMS individually or in bulk, and our OTTera suite of tools makes scheduling easy.
